Catholic Kindergarten School in Towson, Maryland
As a Catholic Kindergarten School in Towson, MD, Immaculate Heart of Mary School’s program is a child-centered, developmentally appropriate program for children. The purpose of the program is to establish a strong foundation for learning in the early years, and to facilitate that learning in a safe, caring, Catholic learning environment – one that promotes cognitive, social, emotional, and spiritual development of all children.
Our Kindergarten Curriculum
The Kindergarten Curriculum reflects the belief that students are capable and competent learners, full of potential and ready to take ownership of their learning. The curriculum supports the creation of a learning environment that allows all children to apply their unique way of thinking and learning through a variety of formative assessments and in-class tasks.
Through this approach our kindergarten students build a strong foundation academically and are prepared to enter elementary school with positive attitudes and a growth mindset about learning. The Kindergarten curriculum will also prepare students with a variety of ways to communicate their thinking and includes opportunities for children to be curious, ask questions, take risks, in order to become confident and creative problem-solvers.
Subject Areas
Found below is a listing of the areas of study for each grade level with example content and essential skills.
Religion
Catholic Schools have the unique educational purpose of presenting a Catholic worldview to our students. At Immaculate Heart of Mary School, a Catholic worldview is a way of looking at the world through a Catholic Church lens, derived from Catholic Church teachings, scripture, and Catholic Church traditions. “Bringing Good News” is the Archdiocese of Baltimore Religion Curriculum for Elementary Schools. This standards-based curriculum serves as a guide for both teachers and students as they embark on a journey, which will provide them with the knowledge and understanding of the faith as witnessed in the teachings and the traditions of the Catholic Church.
